SBI PO 2026 – Eligibility Criteria 

1. Nationality

Candidates must be Indian citizens. Subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, and persons of Indian origin who have migrated from certain specified countries may also be eligible subject to Government of India eligibility certificate.

How to Apply for SBI PO 2026 – Step-by-Step 

The application process is entirely online. Follow these steps to complete your registration successfully:

  1. Visit the official SBI careers portal: www.sbi.bank.in and click on ‘Current Openings’ in the Careers section.
  2. Click on ‘Recruitment of Probationary Officers 2026’ (Advt. No. CRPD/PO/2026-27/09).
  3. Register with your valid Email ID and Mobile Number. Save the Registration Number and Password carefully.
  4. Log in and fill in the complete online application form with personal, educational, and communication details.
  5. Upload scanned images of Photograph, Signature, Left Thumb Impression, and Handwritten Declaration in the prescribed format and size.
  6. Pay the application fee (Rs. 750/- for General/OBC/EWS) through online payment modes. SC/ST/PwBD candidates have no fee.

SBI PO 2026 – Selection Process 

The SBI PO 2026 selection process consists of three phases. Final merit is based on Phase II (Mains) and Phase III scores only — Prelims is purely qualifying.

Phase I – Preliminary Examination (Qualifying)

Online objective test of 100 marks and 1 hour duration. Each section is separately timed. There is NO sectional cut-off in Prelims — only overall cut-off applies. Candidates approximately 10x of vacancies (category-wise) will be shortlisted for Mains.

Objective paper (200 marks, 3 hours) plus Descriptive paper in English (30 marks, 30 minutes). Note: Descriptive paper marks reduced from 50 to 30 in 2026. Descriptive paper is conducted immediately after the Objective paper and evaluated only if the candidate qualifies in the Objective test.

Final merit list is prepared based on Mains Exam (200 marks) + Group Exercise (20 marks) + Interview (30 marks) = Total 250 marks. Candidates must qualify each stage separately.

Probationary Period & Training 

Selected candidates serve a 2-year probationary period, during which they undergo structured banking training at SBI’s State Bank Institute of Learning and Development (SBILD) centres across India. Training covers banking operations, credit appraisal, customer relationship management, digital banking, and leadership skills.

Candidates who do not meet the standards during probation may have their appointment terminated. Those who successfully complete probation are confirmed in JMGS-I scale and become eligible for their first promotion as Deputy Manager (MMGS-II).

Service Bond: Selected candidates must execute a bond of Rs. 2.00 Lakh to serve the Bank for a minimum of 3 years from the date of joining. If a candidate resigns before completing 3 years, the bond amount is recovered by the Bank.


Pre-Examination Training (PET) 

SBI provides free Pre-Examination Training to candidates belonging to SC, ST, Religious Minority Communities, and OBC / PwBD categories. The PET is conducted for 5 days before the Preliminary Examination and covers exam strategies, practice tests, and subject-specific guidance.
